The Local Council for the Protection of Children headed by Mayor Heidee Chua convened recently to discuss issues involving children.
Mayor Chua said “I would like to reiterate that the total welfare of the children must be the most important. Let us see to it that they are free from all types of abuse, whether they are in the home, the school, or on the streets.”
The Council shall supervise and act as guardian for the health, education and well-being of all the minors within the city or municipality, and for this purpose it shall, among others, have the functions provided for in Article 360 of the Civil Code.
With the Mayor as the chairman and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer as the vice chairman, the members include the Sangguniang Bayan Committee Chair on Social Services, the Municipal Local Government Operations Officer, Municipal Health Officer, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator, Municipal Budget Officer, Municipal Treasurer, Municipal Civil Registrar, Municipal Agriculture, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, Chief of Police, Fire Marshal, Department of Education district supervisor, Business Permit and Licensing Officer, Municipal Nutrition Officer, Public elementary school principal and principals of the public and private secondary schools, Youth Federation, and presidents of the Parent-Teachers Associations of the different schools.
